We help safeguard the ocean, the cradle of life, by developing technologies to repurpose discarded fishing nets into high-performance materials with lower environmental impact.

Discarded fishing nets that disrupt the marine ecosystem are now given new life as components of smartphones, earbuds, tablets and laptops.

Planet Restoring Coral Reefs

Coral reefs are among the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth,
supporting around 25%
of all marine life. However, they are under
threat from plastic waste and other
pollutants, putting them at risk of
disappearing.

To address this challenge, Samsung
Electronics has partnered with
SeeTrees, a
non-profit organization dedicated to
preserving marine
ecosystems, and the
Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC
San
Diego. Together, we are utilizing the
Galaxy camera technology to
support coral
reef restoration efforts.

This award recognizes Samsung’s innovative efforts to advance circularity and scale its use of recycled materials.

Energy Winner of the Year
Galaxy Book5 Pro was recognized for its energy efficiency improvements at the 28th Energy Winner of the Year Awards, hosted by Consumers Korea and sponsored by the South Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Environment, and the Korea Energy Agency. It received the 2025 Energy Winner Award.
Green Product of the Year
The Galaxy S25 Series and Galaxy Book5 Pro have been selected as the ‘Green Product of the Year 2025’ by the Korea Green Purchasing Network (KGPN), a non-profit civic organization in South Korea.

The Galaxy S25 Series was recognized for its expanded use of recycled materials, including cobalt, through its ‘Circular Battery Supply Chain.’ Galaxy Book5 Pro was awarded for its energy-efficient technology, which reduced standard annual power consumption by 13.3%.
Reuters Responsible Business Awards
Samsung Electronics won the Responsible Business Award from the global media group Reuters for two consecutive years in 2020 and 2021. Galaxy Upcycling at Home won the Circular Transition Award in 2021, and Samsung Global Goals App won the SDG Impact Award in 2020.
Additionally, in 2024, Samsung Global Goals App won bronze in the “Partnership or Collaboration – Responsible Technology” category of the 4th annual Anthem Awards for advancing social impact through technology.
2023 Social Impact Awards
Our “Transforming Ghost Nets into Mobile Technology” campaign won in the Sustainability Campaign Sector at the 2023 Social Impact Awards organized by PRNEWS. Through this campaign, we accomplished our goal of applying recycled materials to all Galaxy devices launched in 2022 and reaffirmed our will to contribute to the preservation of marine ecosystems.
2022 SEAL Business Stability Awards
Samsung Electronics received the Sustainable Product Award at the 2022 SEAL Business Stability Awards. Presented by Sustainability, Environmental Achievement and Leadership (SEAL), a California-based NGO - in recognition of our application of materials recycled from discarded fishing nets to Galaxy products - the award is testament to our commitment to advancing sustainability and preserving the environment.

The Carbon Trust Certifications : Carbon Footprint

The Carbon Trust certified the following products as 'CO₂ Measured' in accordance with PAS 2050,
a standard to assess carbon emissions throughout the product life cycle, from production to disposal.
